VIC: New-home buyers grant to avoid a potential “fight” in the building industry

A $40,000 new-home buyers grant needs to be introduced within a month to avoid a potential “bloodbath” in the building industry, and save tens of thousands of Victorian jobs. Master Builders Victoria chief executive Rebecca Casson said the state government’s $2.7 billion building blitz, announced this week, and the reopening of display homes and sales suites would help the struggling sector. But the introduction of a new-home buyers grant would “provide a more widespread recovery”, recouping some of the “frightening” job losses. But an Ernst & Young report commissioned by Master Builders shows a new-home buyers grant could save more than 28,000 Victorian jobs, provide a $7.2 billion lift to the wider economy, and create $4.75 billion worth of construction activity. The modelling shows the grant could also lead to 4590 new homes being built across Victoria, providing vital support for 497 construction businesses, most of which are small family companies. QLD: Bridgeman Downs - A new hotspot in Brisbane for the property investors

Analysis by ASPIRE property advisory network reveals Bridgeman Downs, 13 kilometres north of the CBD, has evolved from home buyer hub of rural residential to a solid investor option. Founding and managing director of ASPIRE Richard Crabb believes it follows all the fundamentals, which should see prices rise. “Increasing rents, falling vacancies, rising population and affordable property options are the gold standard when it comes to selecting promising investment locations, and Bridgeman Downs ticks all those boxes,” Mr Crabb explained. According to SQM Research, Bridgeman Downs rental vacancy rate has progressively dropped from its peak figure of 4.5 per cent in November 2016 to 3.2 per cent in November 2019. In addition, the research showed that asking rents are up by 4.0 per cent for units. “A combination of rising rents and tightening vacancies is a key indicator of investment income growth potential,” Mr Crabb said.
