When it comes to moving house, it appears that homeowners and renters alike are drawn to neighbouring suburbs – and in Canberra, staying within the same district. Data from Australia Post reveals the moving habits of residents in our capital cities – based on those who used the mail redirection service between March 2013 and December 2019 – and there’s a distinct pattern. In Canberra, Kambah was the suburb with the most number of movers across the period, with the majority coming from nearby Wannaissa (241), followed by Gordon (136) and Monash (119). All of these suburbs are within the Tuggeranong district and typically represent movements of upsizers, downsizers or buyers seeking more bang for their buck, around their existing communities. Kambah’s median sale price is $590, 000, compared to $500, 229 in Gordon, where buyers would likely be upgrading from; and Monash’s $625, 000, which could indicate a move to save on money or finding to a similarly priced home with more space or features. Wannaissa’s median price of $588, 750 makes it more of a neutral move. Renters moving to Kambah would be paying $500 per week, as well as Monash, compared to $510 in Wannaissa and $470 in Gordon. Canberra’s top five most moved-to suburbs 1. Kambah (from Wannaissa, Gordon and Monash) 2. Ngunnawal (from Gungahlin, Bonner and Amaroo) 3. Harrison (from Franklin, Gunghalin and Bonner) 4. Casey (from Ngunnawal, Nicholls and Gungahlin) 5. Kingston (from Griffith, Barton and Narrabundah) Details inside: x Which Canberra suburbs do people move to the most?...
